Starphire Framework |
What is the Starphire Framework? |
Starphire Framework is a collection of proven software modules and concepts which are leveraged by CriTech Research to create a customized internet-enabled data acquisition and display system. Starphire supports one or more devices sending data to a centralized database server from which doctors and technicians may view data in near real-time or in post processing modes. All network transmissions are encrypted to provide secure data transfers. The centralized database server has a high level of protection from hazards presented by the internet. |

| Medical Device |
| There are two ways to establish a medical device connection to the centralized database system. Some medical devices have a built in Ethernet, which can be used to establish the reliable communications protocol directly. |
| Other medical devices have RS-232 or USB interfaces, which require a protocol interface adapter. The adapter is a hardware and software solution which act as the intermediary between the device’s serial interface requirements and the internet protocol required for secure communications with the centralized database system. |
| Database System |
| The internet interface between the medical devices and the centralized database utilizes Microsoft’s Web Services. The interface is custom adapted to incorporate the specific requirements of the medical device for data storage and retrieval. |
| Centralized database system is built upon Microsoft’s SQL Server platform. The database is customized to handle the medical device’s data storage needs. |
| Viewing System |
| The viewing system supports a variety of clients, from a simple internet browser on a cell phone to a complete, custom developed viewing application running on a dedicated personal computer. Starphire’s near realtime mode can display data with a minimal lag due to internet latency. The bulk post-processing mode allows viewing and analysis of a number of previous gathered data points of interest. |
| Gateway to Other Systems |
| The Starphire Framework is customizable to interface to a number of systems, depending upon the specific needs of the medical device. Gateways can be developed for connections to Lab Information Systems (LIS), Hospital Information Systems (HIS), and Electronic Medical Records (EMR). |
